Europol has announced the results of a coordinated multi-country operation targeting an online network involved in the distribution of child sexual abuse material and the live-streaming of child exploitation. The operation, conducted across 15 European and international jurisdictions, led to the arrest of 38 suspects, the safeguarding of 36 children, and the seizure of devices and digital evidence. Investigators stated that offenders used encrypted messaging applications and peer-to-peer file-sharing platforms to exchange material and coordinate abuse, and that several individuals were actively producing new content. The operation was supported by intelligence from the United States National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and involved simultaneous search warrants executed in mid-August 2024.
Law enforcement operations of this scale depend on retrospective intelligence—reports filed after material has been shared or abuse has occurred—but the lag between production, distribution, and interdiction means that children remain at risk during the investigative cycle.
