EU AI Act Sets December 2026 Enforcement Date for Nudification and AI-Generated CSAM Prohibition

The EU AI Act Digital Omnibus agreement, reached around May 7, 2026, established December 2, 2026 as the enforcement date for the prohibition on nudification applications and AI-generated CSAM under the Act's named AI prohibitions, giving generative AI providers roughly six months to audit and modify their systems. The EU AI Office received expanded powers over general-purpose AI model providers under the same agreement, marking the earliest of three Omnibus compliance deadlines and the first direct restriction on the tools that generate synthetic abuse material at scale rather than targeting only individual offenders.

Blocking generation is necessary but insufficient when offenders can access open-source models outside EU jurisdiction. Targeted detection at the point of distribution addresses harm the regulation cannot fully prevent.
