Dubai Police identify nine victims thanks to boy's courage in online gaming grooming case
Guardii Analysis
Dubai Police reported on October 27, 2026 that a single child who came forward about an approach through an online game enabled investigators to uncover nine additional victims targeted by the same suspect. Speaking at a forum organised with Meta to mark Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Shehhi of the Cybercrime Department described how the suspect offered gaming perks before requesting photos and collecting personal information. The case originated when the child reported being contacted by a man who later requested images of his sister, prompting Dubai Police to urge parents to screenshot, document and report immediately rather than simply blocking accounts.
A targeted detection system would have flagged the escalation from in-game favours to photo requests and the shift toward a sibling before the suspect reached any child. Anti-grooming technology developed by Guardii recognises exactly that pattern of reward, rapport-building and boundary-testing, enabling the platform hosting the game to intervene at the first coercive contact and route a threat report to the hosting authority, protecting the immediate target and, as this investigation shows, potential future victims still unknown to the offender.
