Discord sued in Florida over child grooming claims

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on October 15, 2026, a new lawsuit filed against Discord, the popular online chat platform, alleging failures in child protection. The announcement came one day after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Florida can continue enforcing its 2024 social media law, which bans children under 14 from opening certain social media accounts and requires parental permission for 14- and 15-year-olds, though industry groups continue to argue the law violates free-speech rights.
AI-driven detection modules intercept abuse before a child is harmed. Guardii operates across Discord and other messaging platforms including Instagram, Snapchat and Roblox, detecting grooming, sextortion, CSAM including AI-generated material, and age-inappropriate contact in real time. Its anti-grooming filter surfaces sustained targeting, coercion and escalation patterns in children's direct messages and blocks or flags hostile contact before it reaches the intended target, enabling rapid escalation to the right authority when a child is in danger rather than relying on post-incident reporting alone.
