Coordinated International Operation Dismantles Major Child Exploitation Network, 79 Arrested Across 15 Countries

Guardii Analysis

Europol announced on 28 August 2024 the results of a coordinated operation involving law-enforcement agencies from 15 countries that led to 79 arrests and the safeguarding of 23 children linked to a dark web child sexual exploitation network. The operation, conducted between June and August 2024, targeted users of an encrypted platform who were sharing CSAM and coordinating contact abuse, with investigators identifying suspects through cryptocurrency transaction analysis, digital forensics and intelligence sharing via Europol's specialist cybercrime units. Authorities seized more than 3 terabytes of illegal material and identified several previously unknown victims through victim-identification workflows.

Cross-border law-enforcement operations dismantle networks after evidence has been amassed, a process that may span months or years during which abuse continues. Real-time detection systems positioned at the conversational layer offer a complementary intervention point by identifying grooming, sextortion and CSAM transmission as exchanges occur, enabling immediate protective action for the individual child at risk. Guardii monitors direct messages across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms, blocking hostile contact before it reaches the minor and providing an escalation pathway to police and child-protection agencies while the offender is actively engaged, thereby supporting both safeguarding and evidence-preservation objectives in parallel.
