Belgium reports significant surge in financial sextortion targeting teen boys across major platforms

Belgium reported a continuing significant increase in sextortion and grooming cases in March 2026, with Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp identified as the primary platforms where exploitation is occurring. Financial sextortion comprised 65 percent of cases, with 92 percent of those victims male, predominantly aged 15 to 17, while 20 percent of cases involved demands for additional content, with 70 percent of those victims female and skewing younger.
