Australia's eSafety Commissioner Secures Enforceable Undertaking from Roblox on Child Protections
Guardii Analysis
Australia's eSafety Commissioner accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from Roblox requiring the platform to strengthen protections for children following concerns about its compliance with the Online Safety Act's codes and standards. The undertaking represents a binding commitment by Roblox to implement specific safety measures under regulatory oversight, addressing gaps identified by the Commissioner in the platform's existing child-safety infrastructure. The enforcement action follows Australia's implementation in December 2025 of a complete account ban for users under 16 across ten designated social media platforms, under which 4.7 million underage accounts were deactivated by January 2026.
Enforcement undertakings confirm that platforms bear operational responsibility for child safety, but compliance obligations do not by themselves equip parents, schools or young users with real-time awareness when harm is unfolding. Guardii's detection modules for grooming, sextortion, CSAM and age-inappropriate contact operate across Roblox and other platforms to flag hostile or coercive exchanges as they occur, blocking contact before it reaches the target or surfacing a child in acute distress to an adult with the authority to intervene. Backed by Startmate and deployed as a cross-platform solution, Guardii translates regulatory mandates into operational safeguards: platforms commit to safety standards through undertakings, and targeted AI-driven detection ensures that those commitments produce measurable protection for the children actually at risk.
