Australian eSafety Commissioner Warns AI Nudify Apps Receive 100,000 Visits Per Month, Announces Enforcement Standards

Guardii Analysis

Australia's eSafety Commissioner disclosed that AI-based nudification applications are receiving approximately 100,000 visits monthly, with the tools being weaponized to humiliate, bully and sexually extort children in schools and beyond. Commissioner Julie Inman Grant announced the agency is developing world-first industry standards to tackle harmful online content including deepfakes and nudify apps that generate explicit material depicting anyone under 18, alongside targeted messaging campaigns clarifying to students that AI-generated intimate images of minors are illegal to create and share.

Regulatory standards set floors; real-time behavioral detection closes the gap between a standard and the child in immediate danger. Guardii's anti-sextortion filter is designed to intercept precisely the scenario the eSafety Commissioner describes: an offender uses a fabricated image to humiliate, control or extort a student. The system detects the coercive message, the demand or the threat as it is sent, flags the exchange to a trusted adult or school safeguarding lead, and in an escalating emergency enables rapid handoff to law enforcement, addressing the harm at the conversational layer where a child can still be protected rather than relying solely on the slower apparatus of platform standards, app removal or after-the-fact reporting.
