Apple updates guidelines to ban nudify apps masquerading as regular apps to pass review

Guardii Analysis

Apple revised its App Store developer guidelines on October 19, 2026, implementing new rules that specifically target applications using artificial intelligence to generate nonconsensual intimate imagery. The updated policy bans apps that masquerade as legitimate applications to bypass Apple's review process before activating nudification features, and mandates that developers proactively prevent and remove AI-generated deepfakes from their platforms. Apple warns that apps violating the updated rule 1.2 risk removal from the App Store. The company also reinforced language in its legal section barring apps that promote human trafficking and exploitation of children.

Real-time interception at the point of contact addresses a harm that post-publication content moderation cannot adequately contain. The anti-CSAM detection module within Guardii's platform identifies attempts to share or solicit AI-generated child sexual abuse material as part of a broader pattern of exploitation, flagging the conversation for immediate intervention without requiring content to be uploaded, distributed or reported after the fact. Where a platform policy depends on reactive review and takedown, Guardii's approach surfaces the threatening behaviour in the direct message exchange before imagery circulates, giving a parent, school administrator or authority the information needed to act while the risk is still contained.
