Apple mandates social media declarations for App Store submissions from September 2026

Guardii Analysis

Apple activated social media questions within the App Store Connect age rating questionnaire on July 9, 2026, and will require all new apps, app updates and alternative distribution submissions to complete the declaration from September 2026. The mandatory disclosure obligations follow enactment of state-level age assurance laws in Alabama and Utah requiring app stores to verify user ages and transmit age-category signals to developers, with similar California legislation set to take effect in January 2027. The policy change compels developers to implement age handling and consent architecture aligned with emerging regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

Platform-level age signals and gating mechanisms cannot distinguish between a compliant 15-year-old user and a predatory adult who has falsified their credentials, nor do they detect the grooming conversation, the sextortion threat or the CSAM solicitation after a user is admitted. Guardii operates at the layer where harm actually occurs: inside the direct message, where its anti-grooming, anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection modules identify coercive patterns in real time, block hostile contact before it reaches the child, and deliver an escalation pathway to parents, schools and law enforcement without requiring platforms or app stores to verify the identity of every user at the gate.
