Apple Bans Nudify AI Apps From App Store Following Grok Deepfake Scandal

Guardii Analysis

Apple updated its App Store Review Guidelines on October 16, 2026 to explicitly prohibit applications designed to create nonconsensual intimate images using artificial intelligence, closing a loophole exploited earlier this year when users discovered X's Grok chatbot could generate explicit deepfakes of real people including minors. The policy revision marks a rare tightening of Apple's AI app standards and follows months of pressure after the company reportedly threatened to remove Grok from the App Store, though the application remains available.

A world-leading AI online-safety platform and Meta Business Partner, Guardii operates upstream of app-store enforcement by detecting exploitation as the conversation unfolds rather than after the tool has been downloaded and the image created. Its anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection modules flag the coercive request, the threat to distribute fabricated material, or the demand for payment or additional imagery in real time across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms where offenders operate, reporting the threat pattern to a parent, school or agency while the child is still being targeted and before a nude photo, authentic or synthetic, is ever sent or used as leverage. App-store bans address supply; Guardii addresses the demand at the moment of contact, where intervention can still protect the child.
