More than 420 children in the United Kingdom reported explicit AI-generated deepfake images of themselves in the first six months of 2026 through Report Remove, a service operated by the Internet Watch Foundation and NSPCC. The majority of these manipulated-image reports crossed the threshold for child sexual abuse material. Dan Sexton, chief technology officer at the Internet Watch Foundation, noted the difficulty in preventing ordinary photographs from being manipulated once available online, and some victims have been targeted for sextortion with perpetrators demanding money or threatening distribution.
Guardii addresses the proliferation of AI-manipulated abuse imagery by monitoring direct message channels where deepfake content is initially shared, threatened, or used for coercion. Its detection capabilities recognize both sextortion threats and the distribution of synthetic CSAM across platforms, flagging predatory contact before images reach additional victims and enabling rapid reporting to authorities when deepfake material depicting identifiable children enters peer communication networks.
